College football fans have been served a triple-dip serving of Tim Tebow all year; and, I am not complaining. He appears to be the real deal. You can’t deny he is a terrific football player. I’ve not seen a runner who searches out a defensive back with the intent of jacking his jaw & rocking his world like him since the days of Larry Csonka. Forget his stats – just look at him in uniform & you know he’s made for football. But, we’ve been introduced to his other side – his faith side. It appears to be the real deal, too. It’s been interesting to hear commentators or read writers who take issue with his goody-goody image, but don’t seem to mind the obnoxious, self-centered, profane, gangster images portrayed by some professional athletes. But, my point is not Tim Tebow. It’s Colt McCoy. He’s been a Heisman candidate since his freshman year. He doesn’t have the size & brute strength of TT, but he does possess skills that may make him as good or better pro prospect at quarterback as TT And, he is also a faith-filled young man. He & his favorite receiver, Shipley, attended church with my son-in-law’s dad for a couple of years. Hugh said that late games or not, banged & bruised or unscathed, CM & Shipley were in church services every Sunday. He volunteers as TT does; he helps the less fortunate as TT does; he praises his teammates as TT does; and, he gives all the glory to God as TT does. To be gut-level honest, for me to pull for Texas in anything is like digging out a tooth with a butter knife. I grew up in the SWC days. Back then, Hog fans stood every day, with hand over heart, facing the rising sun & repeated 5 vows: “I love God, I love momma, I love America, I love the Razorbacks & I hate Texas.” It was a way of life. I still struggle to pull for the OOT (other orange team, TN being one – that’s another story). But, after seeing CM’s dream of a national championship end in the early minutes of the game last night & then seeing him being interviewed made me a bigger fan of this young man & want his future to be a bright one. I really don’t know where these people who interview get their training, but I’m waiting for a coach or athlete to simply keep walking & never utter a word to ridiculous questions. Yet, there stood CM, almost in tears; his first words were to praise his teammates, praise the freshman called into emergency duty & then say to a national audience, “I never question God’s plan or why things happen like they do.” That is pure class. That is so very refreshing. That is faith. Colt McCoy, God bless you, and thank you!

Thanks for your comments on my blog last week. It was nice of you to let the others have a better chance at winning the registration to the Weekend to Remember by withdrawing from the contest. Hopefully the couples who won will enjoy and benefit from the conference as much as Janet and I did. I appreciate you, Jackie!
